FIRESTEED CITATION [2002]

The finest Pinot Noir we offer, Citation Oregon is created by looking beyond limiting local geographic boundaries to attain the highest quality possible. After scouring the farthest reaches of the state and our own vineyards and valley, the most promising vineyard blocks were selected and fermented in small vessels. Punched-down twice a day by hand, the wine was gently pressed to French oak barrels to age for the next sixteen months. Careful selection of the best barrels produced a small quantity of deep, darkly-colored, luscious Pinot Noir.
The 2002 harvest in Oregon was preceded by the driest twelve months on record. Cool weather in September and October stretched the growing season and the resulting wines are dark, intense and well-balanced.
Bottle-aged seven years before release, the 2002 Citation Pinot Noir has developed the complexity only achieved with great patience and proven to be a truly world-class wine.  The intense dark-fruit flavors of its youth are now complemented by earthy aromas of wild mushrooms on the Pacific Northwest forest floor. Softening tannins frame the ever-broadening mid-palette and after a lingering finish, revelation…still more good years ahead than behind.
